Yolk Tips

Here are some simple solutions for using left-over egg yolks:

THE YOLKS ON YOU: Use egg yolk for a skin -nourishing facial or for a special conditioning treatment for hair. The vitamins, fats and pro-teins in the yolk make it ideal for skin and hair. Stir one yolk until liquidy. Apply to clean skin or hair and allow to dry 15 minutes. Rinse thor-oughly with warm, not hot, water (wash hair with shampoo after conditioning).

BABY FOOD: Egg yolks are nutritious for grow-ing babies. Mix one cooked egg yolk with a tablespoon of cooked rice for an easy snack for your toddler.

YOLKS FOR BOWSER: Cooked egg yolks are a perfect, inexpensive treat for your dog. They make your dog's coat shine!

SAVE THEM FOR LATER: You can freeze egg yolks by adding either 1/8 teaspoon of salt or 1 1/2 teaspoons sugar or corn syrup per 4 egg yolks. Put the yolks into a clean freezer container and label the outside with the number of yolks and information about salt or sugar, for later cooking.

Q. How long will eggs keep?
A. Fresh shell eggs, purchased from a refrigerated case, can be kept in the refrig-erator, in their original carton for at least 4 to 5 weeks. Eggs lose freshness more in one day at room temperature than in one week in the refrigerator.
